Comments about Last Week’s Super Late Model Race

It was a difficult car on a difficult track and the setup wasn’t very good. There were a lot of incidents and a lot of cautions. I don’t think there was a single driver who drove anything close to a perfect race.

If you don’t feel comfortable with your ability to control this car in racing situations, you need to ride out the laps and use it as a practice situation. It’s good practice to run with other cars racing on the track, but you don’t need to be trying to race anybody. The fact is, some people get it faster than others. Some people practice more than others.

Speaking of practice, drivers who are having difficulties with car control need to get in test sessions or official practices, whatever it takes, and get some practice. Some people don’t have a lot of time but you need to try to make a little time until you learn better car control. I’m not pointing any fingers because I’m in the same boat as some of you. I can’t control the Super. I ride and try  to stay out of the way and use the laps to learn. I’m not trying to beat anybody, just trying to learn.

In the races coming up this week: If any driver calls out another driver, argues, blames, calls names or even criticizes another driver in any way during the race session before looking carefully at a replay, that driver will be suspended for one race. After you look at the replay, you’re welcome to discuss the incident(s) like adults. What you do on your own time is your business, but what you do in league sessions or the league Discord server is mine. If you want to go argue in iRacing PM you can do that, but keep in mind that iRacing PMs are protestable and iRacing will suspend you for sending nasty PMs.

Wednesday, the SK Modifieds head south to another great short asphalt track that often features side by side racing, New Smyrna Speedway. It’s a 60 lap morning race for the Modifieds. The session gets under way at 8:30 pm.

The Late Models will be at another great short/intermediate sized track: USA International Speedway. That’s a 60 lap night race. That session gets started at 9:30 pm.

Coming up Friday night, it’s another big night of racing in the 360 Sprint Cars at Volusia Speedway. This will be a 35 lap night race. This has grown to be the most fun series in the OSR line-up so far with close, clean racing each and every week. The 360 session starts at 7:30 pm.

After the 360s, the 410 Sprint Cars pound the clay at Volusia Speedway. These cars are a handful at Volusia, so practice would be a good idea. The session starts at 9:00 pm.

Moving on to Sunday night, we’re running the Pro Late Models at 7:30 and the Super Late Models at 9:00 pm. Volusia speedway is the venue for those races. Again, we all need to practice for these races.

All times are US eastern.

Here are the setups for each race.

  • Modified – [wpfilebase tag=file id=2278 tpl=filebrowser /]
  • Late Model Stock Car – [wpfilebase tag=file id=2277 tpl=filebrowser /]
  • 360 Sprint Car – [wpfilebase tag=file id=2280 tpl=filebrowser /]
  • 410 Sprint Car – [wpfilebase tag=file id=2281 tpl=filebrowser /]
  • Pro Late Model – [wpfilebase tag=file id=2283 tpl=filebrowser /]
  • Super Late Model – [wpfilebase tag=file id=2282 tpl=filebrowser /]

I’ll be making the PLM and SLM setups over the next day or two. Check back here later or check with me in Discord for those.

OSR League Update for January 24, 2017

Latest News

All of the Old School Racing Leagues will return to fixed setups beginning Friday, January 27. As the poll indicates, league members prefer fixed setups over open setups. This proves out in league participation. We always have more people racing when when we race on fixed setups. The setups provided will be slightly modified versions of the iRacing setups. In almost all cases, no spring adjustments will be made which will limit other adjustments. Some of the things that will be adjusted are

  • camber
  • tire pressures
  • gear
  • small stagger adjustments
  • shocks (because the iRacing shock settings are ridiculous on most of the current setups)
  • track bars (on cars that have them).

This will produce a baseline setup that is very drivable and should suit everyone well.

Last Week’s Race Winners

  • Modified – Donny Moore
  • Rookie Street Stock – Kevin LaBree
  • Pro Street Stock – Bryce Senesac
  • Late Model Stock Car – Brad Carpenter

Coming Up

This Friday night, the Modifieds are at New Smyrna Speedway for a morning race. Practice begins at 9:00 pm eastern time with qualifying at 9:30 and racing at 9:35. We will be using this setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2002 tpl=filebrowser /].

Sunday night, the Rookie and Pro Street Stocks visit South Boston Speedway for a race under the lights.

  • Rookie Streets Stocks – 6:30 pm eastern, 60 laps
  • Pro Street Stocks – 7:30 pm eastern, 75 laps

Both Street Stock races will use this setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2004 tpl=filebrowser /].

Last but not least, the Late Model Stock Cars head to Lanier National Speedway Sunday night at 9:00 pm eastern for a 90 lap afternoon race. I’m not crazy about afternoon races in the Late Model but that’s what iRacing is running next week so we’ll hit it Sunday. We will use this setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2005 tpl=filebrowser /].
