iRacing Rookie Tip: Stop The Car

If you seek a broad array of iRacing setups at prices that actually make sense, you will find
them in our Discord. We keep the selection wide and the costs low, just as they ought to be
.

If you lose control going into or coming out of a corner, just stop the car. I’m not talking about a little fishtail on exit. I’m talking about loss of control, that “OH SH1+” moment, not just a little fishtail. Please stop the car. Not just in this sim but in many others have I seen full throttle and counter steering attempted to save the car. Counter steering may help in some situations, but save it for when you have more experience and you know what you’re doing.

Whether in a sim or on a track in real life we tend to be going much faster than we do on the street in normal every day life. Much much faster. Keep this in mind whenever you are racing.

You have already lost control, so take the time to compose yourself. There are those rare occasions where you will still be in the middle of the track. In some of those instances you will be the cause of an accident involving other racers, but not all of them. If you stop the car, you’ll usually come to rest off the track and out of harm’s way.

Logitech G923 Racing Wheel and Pedals for Xbox X|S, Xbox One and PC Featuring TRUEFORCE up to 1000 Hz Force Feedback, Responsive Pedal, Dual Clutch Launch Control, and Genuine Leather Wheel Cover Serious sim racers want feedback they can trust, not some limp toy wheel pretending to be a steering column. The Logitech G923 Racing Wheel and Pedals delivers the real deal with TRUEFORCE force feedback, responsive pedals, and a hand-stitched leather wheel. Built for Xbox and PC, it brings sharper control and real driving feel to your rig so you can push harder every lap. If you want your sim racing to feel like the real thing, this wheel is ready to go to work.

Look at your relative box before you start to move. If you are in the track, others may be able to drive around you. If you are off the track then make sure you can get back on without jumping in front of another car.

It is something you have to think about and train yourself to do. You are already thinking about braking, turn in, etc. Sooner or later you will think less of the particulars and be comfortable in a certain car on a particular track, and change your thought process a little to figure out how to go faster. The same will happen with the exercise to stop when you lose control. After a while you won’t have to think about it.

You’ve already most likely gotten a X1 incident. You can surely turn it into a X5 or X6 in an instant, and possibly give incidents to other drivers.

Please just stop the car.
