Every season, iRacing gives its members an opportunity to advance to the next license level. They call it Week 13. It’s some sort of black hole between seasons. True to its number, it is bad luck for most racers who choose to participate in it.
For oval racers, there’s the Street Stock Challenge series making its rounds to Charlotte. Everybody has raced a Street Stock on the big oval, but now you get to try your hand on the tiny, flat Legends oval. They say it’s a quarter mile but it seems shorter. I can’t find any fun on the track, but that’s just my opinion. I could be wrong. You’ll also get to race some of the great old tracks like Oxford Plains, Lanier, Thompson, South Boston, and USA International.
If you’re looking for other oval racing, you’ll have to look elsewhere. I think iRacing has some NA$CAR things going. I’m not really sure because I don’t keep up with that. The same goes for road racing. I do believe there is a Toyota Camry on the way.
Beware, safety ratings and iRatings are in effect for these official series.
On the unofficial side, the only thing of interest seems to be the 24 Hours of Fun 4 featuring the Super Late Models racing on the brand new Lucas Oil Raceway. This will also be a wreck fest, but at least you won’t have to worry about iRating or safety rating. Also noteworthy is the 24 Hours of Fun 5 featuring the Legends cars on the Figure 8 at Irwindale!
My advice for Week 13:
- Run the unofficial series.
- Run hosted races.
- Get ready for next season.
In other words, steer clear of anything that involves safety rating and iRating. Whatever you decide to do, have fun doing it!
