The suspense continues to build surrounding the release date of iRacing Dirt. I keep hearing that it’s going to be sometime in March, but I have no reliable sources. March is a pretty good guess considering the fact that the updates from iRacing are showing a product that is nearing completion, and also the fact that the Season 2 build comes out in March. I don’t think anybody knows for sure except maybe the folks at iRacing headquarters.
I would like to test a dirt racing format this Wednesday at 9:00 pm eastern. This is not the night that I plan to run Dirt racing, this is just a test night, and the format may change. The entire event should take less than 2 hours. Click to join the OSR Dirt League. It’s not necessary to join the Dirt League to participate in the session, but it is restricted to OSR and BRL league members only. The test will be held under Hosted Tournament Sessions. Just click Hosted on the iRacing page and look in Tournaments near the top. If we have enough cars (6 minimum) we will be running 4 different sessions.
- 30 minute practice and 5 minute qualifying
- Heat 1 – 12 laps
- Heat 2 – 12 laps
- Main – 50 laps
If we have fewer than 6 cars, the test will be canceled.
The track will be Oxford Plains Speedway Late Afternoon with default weather. The car will be the Street Stock on this fixed setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2043 tpl=filebrowser /]
It might be easier if you can join Discord since we will be moving from session to session, or you can just watch for subsequent sessions to appear under Hosted Tournaments.
The heats will line up snaked from qualifying. The Main will line up snaked from the heats. iRacing’s tournament system makes this relatively easy from what I can recall.
If you miss practice and qualifying and make it before the heats start, I can put you at the tail end of a heat if you let me know in Discord.
Even though the tournament system makes this easier, it’s still a bit of a PITA. Ideally, iRacing should come up with a way in which all of these races can be handled within one session. Tournaments are not available in leagues sessions, so no points can be scored under the iRacing league system. I am going to use a third party points system and score our test races. Only the mains will be scored.
If you have any questions or suggestions about this race format or any other, PM me or join Discord.
