Here are the highlights from the iRacing 2019 Season 1 release notes.
iRacing Beta User Interface
- The interface includes a new Home section with latest news, promotions, and popular official and hosted races. (Let’s face it, everything they’re doing with this interface either already has been done on the website or it could be done better on the website. This interface is nothing more than style over substance. The website could be so much better than the sluggish interface with all its limitations.)
- The Leagues section of the iRacing beta user interface has been unlocked. According to iRacing: “Full league management functionality, as on the Membersite Leagues pages, is now available through the iRacing BETA Interface!” There is a problem with the premise because full league management functionality is not available on the iRacing member site league pages. The member site league pages could be fixed and members have asked for a fix for years and those requests are ignored. Until iRacing includes the same functionality in league management as they do in hosted racing, leagues will continue to be the bastard children of iRacing and league owners and administrators will continue to struggle to manage their leagues.
- The hosted racing interface is improved. The race details are all together on one page. A ‘reset’ and ‘last settings’ button have been added. I’ve been on iRacing for almost six years. The ‘last settings’ button on the website interface never worked. Maybe this will get fixed in the ‘pretty’ interface.
Day/Night and Time of Day
The iRacing simulator now generates dynamic skies that change as time passes.
League and Hosted Race Admin Commands
Race administrators can now throw a manual caution even if the session cautions are disabled. iRacing race control will not throw any cautions, but the administrator may.
Dirt Late Model
The damage model has been adjust to reduce performance losses from side and rear impacts, and all the setups were updated.
Asphalt Super Late Model
Still broken.
That’s about it. It looks like the biggest thing going in this barren build is the improvements in the pretty interface with a nod to day/night and time of day transitions.
