Kasey Kahne Returning to Sprint Car Racing with Macri Motorsports

Sprint car fans in Central Pennsylvania are about to see a familiar name climb back into the cockpit.

Former NASCAR Cup Series driver Kasey Kahne is set to return to sprint car competition next month, stepping in for the injured Anthony Macri in the Macri Motorsports No. 39M for a planned 10-race stretch across the region. The run is scheduled to begin this Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, one of the most historic dirt tracks in the country.

One of the most popular entry-to-mid level sim racing wheels available today. The G923 delivers strong TRUEFORCE feedback up to 1000 Hz that lets you feel the road with refreshing clarity, a responsive brake pedal with progressive spring, and a solid set of pedals built for consistent control. It includes a programmable dual-clutch launch system for cleaner starts, a genuine leather-wrapped wheel, and straightforward compatibility with PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

The move was announced Monday by Macri Motorsports as Macri continues recovering from injuries sustained earlier this month.

Macri Continues Recovery from Williams Grove Crash

Macri suffered compression fractures of the T4 and T5 vertebrae in a crash at Williams Grove earlier in the month, an injury serious enough to keep him out of the driver’s seat while he focuses on healing.

In a statement, the team made it clear that Macri’s health comes first.

“With Anthony Macri continuing to keep his health and healing process as a priority, he is unable to return behind the wheel at this time,” the team said. “Macri Motorsports has decided to temporarily fill the seat of the 39M to keep the crew fresh and support our local tracks in the midst of some big events.”

Rather than letting the car sit idle during a busy stretch of racing in Central Pennsylvania, the team chose to bring in an experienced driver to keep the program active.

Kahne Returns After Nine-Month Absence

For Kahne, the opportunity marks his first sprint car start in nine months.

Master your laps without dominating the room. The Next Level Racing Wheel Stand 2.0 stands rock-solid for direct-drive wheels, yet folds away in seconds when real life calls. Full adjustability for wheel, pedals, and shifter lets a man settle into his proper position the honest way. A clever chair cradle keeps your seat planted under hard braking, while predrilled mounts welcome Thrustmaster, Fanatec, Logitech, and the rest. Upgrade later to a full cockpit with the GTSeat add-on. Serious performance, sensible footprint—no compromises required.

The 46-year-old stepped away from driving his own No. 9 sprint car last July to focus on running Kasey Kahne Racing as a full-time team owner. His most recent sprint car appearance came at Lernerville Speedway, where he finished 18th in a High Limit Racing event.

Even with a long resume in both NASCAR and sprint cars, Kahne hasn’t been a regular competitor since stepping back from the cockpit last summer. That makes this upcoming stretch with Macri Motorsports an interesting return for one of the sport’s most recognizable names.

Schedule Remains Flexible

While the plan currently calls for Kahne to run a 10-race schedule, the team stressed that the arrangement could change depending on Macri’s recovery timeline.

The team described Kahne’s appearances as “tentative and fluid,” leaving the door open for Macri’s return once he is medically cleared.

Appreciation for Fan Support

Macri Motorsports also took a moment to thank fans for their continued backing during the situation.

“We appreciate the continued and unwavering support of all the fans,” the team said.

For now, Central Pennsylvania fans will get a rare chance to see Kahne back in a sprint car, beginning this weekend at Williams Grove. Meanwhile, the priority remains Macri’s recovery and eventual return to the driver’s seat.

In the meantime, the No. 39M won’t be sitting still. And sprint car fans in Pennsylvania just got another reason to keep their eyes on the lineup.
