Dirt Racing Dispatch: The Week’s Worthy Wins and Hard-Earned Headlines

Hudson O’Neal slipped past pole-sitter Brandon Overton on a late restart and drove away to victory in the opening night of the Malvern Bank High Bank Heist at Eagle Raceway on May 14. The triumph marked O’Neal’s fifth win of the season with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, as Ricky Thornton Jr. charged from fifteenth to second and Brandon Sheppard claimed third in a display of the sort of determined racing one expects when the big guns roll into Nebraska.

The World of Outlaws Late Model Series visited Marion Center Raceway the following evening for the Connor Bobik Memorial preliminaries. Pennsylvania favorites answered the call in split-field features worth $6,000 apiece: Logan Zarin took the first ahead of Brent Larson and Tyler Erb, while Jared Miley powered from sixth to win the second over Dustin Sorensen and Tristan Chamberlain. Local knowledge and sharp handling proved decisive on the quarter-mile bullring.

Tim McCreadie had earlier collected the honors at Selinsgrove Speedway on May 14 in the Sand Hill Showdown, adding another strong run to a season that continues to reward consistency. Bobby Pierce, meanwhile, had taken the Delaware Diamond Clash at Georgetown on May 13, reminding everyone that the Outlaws’ eastern swing rewards those who arrive prepared and leave nothing on the table.

In sprint car country, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series rolled into Eldora Speedway on May 15. Rico Abreu emerged victorious in the feature, with Michael Kofoid and Giovanni Scelzi completing the podium in a race that showcased the blistering pace these winged warriors can produce on the high banks.

High Limit Racing and its Kubota Midweek Series maintained steady progress through early May, with Aaron Reutzel still leading the overall standings by a slim margin over Tanner Thorson as of May 9. The championship fight remains tight, exactly as one would hope when talent this deep contests a full slate of demanding events.

Elsewhere, the American Sprint Car Series saw Seth Bergman claim his first win of the year at Benton Speedway on May 8, while Sawyer Phillips triumphed in Midwest Region action at Eldon Raceway the same weekend. The **United Sprint Car Series** wrapped recent stops with Derek Hagar and Morgan Havener posting strong victories in early May outings.

The DIRTcar Summer Nationals season approaches its fortieth anniversary kickoff on June 9, building anticipation for the traditional Hell Tour grind that separates the merely quick from the truly resilient.

These results remind us that dirt racing rewards the prepared, punishes the careless, and delivers satisfaction to those willing to chase it across miles of backroads and long nights. The machines keep turning, the points keep tightening, and the next checkered flag waits just around the bend.
