CARS Tour hands down penalties Barnes Tyrrell

CARS Tour officials have dropped the hammer following a heated on-track incident between Doug Barnes Jr. and Mini Tyrrell during Saturday night’s Delta Heating and Cooling 175 at Wake County Speedway.

Doug Barnes Jr. has been hit with a one-race suspension, sidelining him from this weekend’s event at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. He has also been placed on probation for the remainder of the 2026 CARS Tour season. Series officials cited “flagrant rough driving,” “retaliation,” and “intentional contact with another competitor” as the primary reasons for the stiff penalty.

Mini Tyrrell, the full-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series rookie driving the No. 14 truck for Kaulig Racing, received probation for the rest of the 2026 CARS Tour season for rough driving.

The suspension effectively ends any realistic shot Barnes Jr. had at contending for the CARS Tour championship this year. Tyrrell, who continues to make select Late Model Stock starts while running full-time trucks, now heads into the rest of his CARS Tour schedule under probation.

What do you think — was the penalty too harsh on Barnes, or was it justified? Drop your thoughts in the comments and let us know who you side with in this Wake County drama.
