iRacing Releases 2016 Season 1 Shedule

December 3, 2015 by Jeff Kendrick 2 Comments

iRacing 2016 Season 1 ScheduleiRacing has released the racing schedule for 2016 Season 1. This is something I have been anticipating, mainly because I’ve been curious about where they would go with dynamic weather. Just as I suspected, all series will run dynamic weather except for the fixed setup series, which will use default weather settings.

If you build iRacing setups at all, you can go at least a couple of different ways with this weather variable. You could build about 3 different setups for each track, one for about 72°, another setup for about 78°, and yet another for about 84°. For most of us, that is an impractical approach. Most of us have other things going on outside of iRacing, and some run more than one series. A more practical approach is to build one setup for 78° and partly cloudy. In other words, default weather conditions. Beginning with 2016 Season 1, all OSRacing.net setups will be built for default weather conditions and 50% track usage. (OSR League Members note: all league races will now be run using default weather conditions.)

Beginning with 2016 Season 1, all OSRacing.net setups will be built for default weather conditions and 50% track usage.

Another significant change in the iRacing 2016 Season 1 Schedule is the introduction of a new standard qualifying procedure.

All oval series will have a solo two minute warm up followed by a five minute qualifying session with two timed laps. The qualifying sessions will be attached to each race so your times will be specific to each race.

As for interesting races on the schedule, here are a few of the highlights.

The iRacing Legends Series will visit Concord Speedway in Week 8. As you know, iRacing made Concord a “free” track, part of the basic iRacing package. Legends do well at Concord, so this will be a nice addition to a Legends Series schedule that has become somewhat repetitive.

The iRacing Late Model Series and SK Modified Series will visit the all new Southern National Motorsports Park during Week 10. This should be a fun track if it’s anything like the real world version.

The iRacing Street Stock Series will also visit SNMP during Week 11, and Week 9 takes the Street Stocks to Rockingham Speedway, then to Phoenix International Raceway circa 2008 in Week 12. These bigger tracks are unfortunate ventures for the Street Stock Series when they’re better suited for tracks like Langley Speedway and New Smyrna Speedway, two excellent tracks that are not on the Street Stock schedule at all. The Street Stocks will also get their turn at Concord Speedway in Week 6.

The iRacing Super Late Model Series heads to SNMP in Week 9 as iRacing pushes the track in all short track oval series. Super Late Models will also head to Bristol Motor Speedway in Week 1. Unless there is some significant change in the Super Late Model springs and/or chassis configuration/physics (which there could be), I’ll be interested to see what kind of setup iRacing can get to work for this car on this track.

The Tour Modified will also pay a visit to Rockingham Speedway during Week 2, and SNMP during Week 10. In Week 11, the series will race at Gateway Motorsports Park. This seems unusual for the Tour Modified, and I’m sure most of us will skip it.

That’s it for next season’s highlights. There’s plenty to enjoy in iRacing in 2016 Season 1. I look forward to our league races as we will run many of the same tracks and all six of the true short track cars.

iRacing Releases 2015 Season 4 Schedule

August 25, 2015 by Jeff Kendrick Leave a Comment

There’s nothing to get overly excited about with the 2015 Season 4 iRacing schedule. It’s pretty much the same as every other season before.

Rookie Legends will follow the same established pattern, visiting the free short tracks for the first half of the season, then repeating the same tracks for the second half of the season with Lime Rock substituted for Oxford Plains for some reason.

Rookie Street Stocks never do anything different. It’s Charlotte and USA over and over, ad nauseum.

The Late Models visit the same short tracks as usual. This season iRacing added New Hampshire to the Late Modes schedule. It’s not bad for a one mile track. Unfortunately, Richmond is scheduled for Week 2. This is a boring intermediate track that wants to be a super speedway, and ends up being neither.

The same misfortune befalls the SK Modified cars in Week 1 as they head to Iowa Speedway. I refer you to Richmond, above. Iowa is the same thing only slightly longer. It is another failure among race tracks, trying to accomplish two things and falling on it’s face in the process. Week 7 is no better for the SK Modified Series as they try to race at the shit hole known as Phoenix International Raceway. It’s unfortunate that iRa$ing has it’s head so far up NA$CAR’s ass that they have to include every worthless track NA$CAR ever supported.

Moving on to the C class series: First is the Street Stocks. The most unfortunate thing about this schedule is that every race will be run on fixed setups. This series was ruined when iRacing made that switch. Also on the unfortunate list: Iowa Speedway in Week 2.

The Super Late Models have the best schedule of 2015 Season 4 with all short tracks except for Week 9 when they visit New Hampshire Motor Speedway, a decent intermediate track. However, if you want to know how to kill an iRacing Series, all you have to do is take notes on what iRacing has done with the Super Late Models.

  1. Introduce a light car with a lot of power. Don’t police any of the races. Just let them wreck each other until the majority of racers move to another series.
  2. After most people have already left the series, introduce dynamic weather and group qualifying. Hooray. As if people already don’t have time to fool with setups, not let’s make it harder. Let’s create as much tedium as possible. That should get rid of a few more of those pesky members who would like to race the Super Late Model. And the group qualifying is a great idea! Now people who want to get a decent qualifying lap can’t because there are cars pulling out of the pits in front of them and a wreck in the next turn and some guy going slow on the front stretch.
  3. Next step: Fixed setups! Now the ones who left because there were too many variables and too much tedium might come back, plus the guys who never practice will be there. They will race in clumps of 3 or 4 cars each because they will all be on the same setup, and that will cause lots of cool wrecks.

Then you have the iRacing Tour Modified Series, which is dead. Nobody runs it so it doesn’t matter what the schedule is.

iRacing 2015 Season 3 Schedule is Here

May 9, 2015 by Jeff Kendrick Leave a Comment

iRacing has released the schedule for 2015 Season 3 with the caveat that it could change. For some reason they refuse to commit to anything until June 16, the day Season 3 starts. It would be nice to know where we’ll be racing a little ahead of time, but we have no choice in the matter so we’ll work with what we’re given.

The short track Rookie Series are up to the usual stuff so there’s nothing new to report there. Street Stocks alternate the same two tracks, Legends get a road course during the second half of the season. I’ve been watching the Legends road course activity a little bit recently. Dear iRacing: Nobody cares.

On to more interesting things, the Late Model Series is up to the usual stuff with one new track added — Five Flags Speedway. 🙂 Other than that, it’s a very similar schedule to what we’ve seen in past seasons.

  1. New Smyrna Speedway
  2. USA International Speedway
  3. Irwindale Speedway – Outer
  4. South Boston Speedway
  5. Iowa Speedway (booooo)
  6. Lanier National Speedway
  7. Five Flags Speedway
  8. Oxford Plains Speedway
  9. Stafford Motor Speedway
  10. Thompson Speedway
  11. Langley Speedway
  12. Martinsville Speedway

So once again the Late Model Series has a very good schedule with the exception of Week 5.

Moving along to the SK Modified Series, these lucky guys get to visit Five Flags Speedway in Week 2. They also have an even better schedule that the Late Model boys.

  1. Lucas Oil Raceway
  2. Five Flags Speedway
  3. Lanier National Speedway
  4. South Boston Speedway
  5. Bristol Motor Speedway
  6. Oxford Plains Speedway
  7. USA International Speedway
  8. Thompson Speedway
  9. Stafford Motor Speedway
  10. Irwindale Speedway – Outer
  11. Langley Speedway
  12. New Smyrna Speedway

Moving on up the Class C short track series, we come first to the Street Stocks. This is a pathetic series since it was switched to fixed setups, but I’ll give the run-down anyway.

In addition to being pathetic for having fixed setups, iRacing added Charlotte to the Class C schedule. Great. You might as well just change the name of this series to Rookie Street Stock II. Even some veteran drivers act like idiots in this series. It’s a total waste of time and bandwidth.

  1. Oxford Plains Speedway
  2. Concord Speedway
  3. Five Flags Speedway
  4. New Smyrna Speedway
  5. Langley Speedway
  6. USA International Speedway
  7. Lanier National Speedway
  8. South Boston Speedway
  9. Thompson Speedway
  10. Lucas Oil Raceway
  11. Stafford Motor Speedway
  12. Charlotte Motor Speedway

It’s a pretty good schedule with the exception of the snoozer in Week 12. Too bad nobody with half a brain will bother with this series.

Next we move to a series with even lower participation, the Super Late Model Series. However, Week 1 might be interesting since the series will be the first to visit Five Flags Speedway.

  1. Five Flags Speedway
  2. Bristol Motor Speedway
  3. Lanier National Speedway
  4. USA International Speedway
  5. Stafford Motor Speedway
  6. Richmond International Speedway
  7. Martinsville Speedway
  8. South Boston Speedway
  9. Irwindale Speedway – Outer
  10. The Milwaukee Mile (yawn)
  11. Langley Speedway
  12. New Smyrna Speedway

Not a good schedule for the Super Late Models. It starts off with the new track and it’s pretty much down hill from there. Get rid of Richmond and Milwaukee and you might have something.

Now to the next series with little to no participation: Tour Modified. I’m surprised this series has as much participation as it does with all the rough driving and cheating that goes on in the form of blocking. One major team that races this series makes blocking (cheating) their number one objective. Anyway, here’s the schedule for the Tour Modified Series, and they get what they deserve. The schedule is lousy. I’m glad I won’t be racing these cars.

  1. USA International Speedway
  2. Gateway Motorsports Park
  3. Martinsville Speedway
  4. New Smyrna Speedway
  5. New Hampshire Motor Speedway
  6. Lucas Oil Raceway
  7. Stafford Motor Speedway
  8. Five Flags Speedway
  9. Phoenix International Raceway
  10. South Boston Speedway
  11. Iowa Speedway
  12. Richmond International Raceway

So that’s the run-down for the iRacing oval short track series for Season 3. Good luck to all.

iRacing Schedule for 2014 Season 2

April 7, 2014 by Jeff Kendrick Leave a Comment

iRacing has released the racing schedule for 2014 Season 2. Here are some of the highlights:

  • The Late Model Series will make a stop at Lucas Oil Raceway aka Indianapolis Raceway Park in Week 3, so expect the track in the new build or at least by week 3. The Late Models will also visit Martinsville Speedway in Week 12, which should be a lot of fun.
  • The iRacing Street Stock Class C Series will be a FIXED SETUP series for 2014 season 2. The races have also been shortened significantly. The Street Stocks will also visit Lucas Oil Raceway in Week 6. The only bum tracks on the Street Stock schedule for the upcoming season are Iowa Speedway and Rockingham Speedway. I’ll be sitting out those weeks, as usual. I believe we will see a significant increase in participation for Street Stock Class C as a result of fixed setups and shorter races. I’m not praising fixed setups. I think it would be a good thing if better setups were developed for the cars. Fixed setups have their pros and cons, the biggest con being that some people tend to practice less, or none at all when a fixed setup race is concerned.
  • Get ready to shell out a few bucks for Lucas Oil Raceway; the Super Late Modes visit the track on Week 10.

Here are the schedules for the three oval stock car series:

iRacing Late Model Series
  1. New Smyrna Speedway – Night Race – 60 Laps
  2. Lanier National Speedway – Night Race – 60 Laps

  9. Bristol Motor Speedway – Night Race – 70 Laps
  10. Concord Speedway – 70 Laps
  11. USA International Speedway – 50 Laps
  12. Martinsville Speedway – 50 Laps
iRacing Street Stock Series Class C – Fixed
  1. New Smyrna Speedway – Night Race – 50 Laps
  2. Iowa Speedway – Night Race – 30 Laps

iRacing Releases 2014 Season 1 Schedule

January 20, 2014 by Jeff Kendrick Leave a Comment

iRacing released their 2014 season 1 racing schedule today, and there are a few changes and some things worth mentioning about it.

There will no longer be three four-week rookie seasons during the regular twelve week iRacing season. Rookies will have a twelve week season just like everyone else. With this, iRacing has also done away with the manual promotions that they were doing at the end of each four-week rookie season. Now rookies will be able to fast-track to Class D by simply reaching a safety rating of 3.0 and meeting the minimum participation requirements. All I can say is, look out D class racers, here they come.

The Legends Road Racing Series (sorry, didn’t even know there was such a thing) will replace the old Advanced Rookie Road Series. I guess I just don’t know anything about road racing.

When the new build finally goes out, iRacing will launch the Super Late Model Series. You’ll need a Class D 4.0 minimum to race in the series, which means it’s a C Class series with cautions. Looking at the schedule, it’s all short tracks with the deplorable Richmond International Raceway thrown in to screw things up, but it looks pretty good.

There are a few more new things going on, but that’s the interesting stuff. Here are some more interesting parts of the schedule.

The iRacing Advanced Legends Series will continue to rotate the same six or seven tracks, just like they do every season. There is nothing new to report for the Legends cars.

The iRacing Late Model Series will continue in a similar way to the past few seasons, short tracks, and of course Class D has no cautions. All of the races are either 50, 60, or 70 laps. Look for the following venues in this order:

  1. New Smyrna Speedway night
  2. Lanier National Speedway night
  3. Richmond International Raceway night (boo! lol)
  4. South Boston Speedway
  5. Langley Speedway night
  6. Stafford Motor Speedway
  7. Irwindale Speedway – Outer
  8. Thompson International Speedway
  9. Bristol Motor Speedway night
  10. Concord Speedway
  11. USA International Speedway
  12. Martinsville Speedway

I really hate to keep harping on iRacing about this, but they ask for it every single season. They prove to the world each and every racing season that they know absolutely nothing about short track racing, and Street Stock racing in particular. Fifty mile races just don’t happen in Street Stocks. Oh well, it doesn’t do any good. I’m not even going to put the tracks here for Street Stock Class C. I might run some of the short tracks if I have time, but this is still ridiculous. You can guess the tracks and the long, long races, they’re about the same as always. Look for this series to die with the birth of the Super Late Model.

Speaking of the Super Late Model Series, you can expect a schedule similar to the Late Model Series, just add about 20 laps to each race. All of the races in the series are either 70, 80, or 90 laps, and, of course there will be cautions since it is Class C.

  1. New Smyrna Speedway night
  2. Irwindale Speedway – Outer
  3. Bristol Motor Speedway night
  4. Lanier National Speedway night
  5. South Boston Speedway
  6. USA International Speedway
  7. Martinsville Speedway
  8. Stafford Motor Speedway
  9. Langley Speedway night
  10. Richmond International Speedway night
  11. Thompson International Speedway
  12. Concord Speedway

That sums it up for all the good classes. The full schedule is available somewhere on the iRacing service.
