Brandon Overton Claims $21,000 Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial Victory at Tazewell Speedway in Thrilling Spring Nationals Showdown

Brandon Overton Win at Tazewell Speedway 2026
Brandon Overton has added another impressive notch to an already sterling career, and this one carries the distinctive flavor of a hard-fought triumph at a place that does not hand out victories lightly. The Evans, Georgia driver can now call himself a Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial winner after he mastered the slick, lightning-quick surface of Tazewell Speedway on Saturday night and drove away with the $21,000 winner’s share in the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series presented by Coltman Farms Racing and fueled by Sunoco.

Overton timed in fifth quickest during qualifying, then went out and won his heat race with the sort of workmanlike efficiency that has become his trademark. In the 75-lap feature, he spent the opening twenty-three circuits glued to the rear bumper of pole-sitter Kaede Loudy, patiently waiting for the right moment. That moment arrived on lap 24. Overton, known to fans as “Big Sexy,” made a decisive power move, snatched the lead, and never surrendered it again. He crossed the finish line just 0.642 seconds ahead of what appeared to be runner-up Sam Seawright.

Yet the evening’s drama was not quite finished. Post-race inspection revealed that Seawright had failed the droop check because of a part failure, and officials correctly dropped him all the way to nineteenth in the official results. The misfortune for one man became an unexpected payday boost for everyone else. Loudy, who had led the first twenty-three laps from the pole, collected a well-earned $10,000 for second place. Dale McDowell, who started eighth, advanced five positions to finish third and pocketed $6,000. Hudson O’Neal, fresh off his Friday night victory at Wythe Raceway, came home fourth and took home $4,000. Mike Marlar, starting ninth, rounded out the top five and earned $3,000 for his efforts.

In victory lane, Overton wasted no time giving credit where it was due. “First off, this win is for my guys,” he said, looking straight at the Riggs Motorsports crew. “They busted their butts this weekend. The track, as soon as I got the lead, I could feel it starting to latch down. It was my race to lose after that. I was just trying not to crash with the lapped cars and just be smart about things.”

That thirteenth career Spring Nationals Series victory came aboard the Riggs Motorsports #76 Longhorn Chassis, carrying sponsorship from a solid group of partners that includes Budweiser, Dude Wipes, Heartbeat Hot Sauce, Garnto Southern, Riggs Fiber, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Big Dog Stump and Tree Service, RW Powell Construction, Supply Chain Management, Muscle Factory, VG Performance, Bilstein Shocks, and Boswell Oil Company.

Only twenty Super Late Model competitors made the trip to the historic Tazewell, Tennessee oval for the sixth running of the Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial. Hudson O’Neal set the fastest lap in MRP Fantasy Racing hot laps with an 11.070-second circuit. Benji Hicks later posted the overall quick time in FK Rod Ends qualifying at 11.618 seconds. Heat race victories went to Kaede Loudy, Brandon Overton, and Hudson O’Neal. The feature itself stayed relatively clean, slowed by only two early caution flags, both of which involved Dakota Smith.

After three demanding weekends in succession, the Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series will now enjoy a well-deserved breather of roughly one month. The tour returns to action May 7 through 9 in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The tripleheader begins Thursday night at Hidden Hollow Speedway in Colson for a $5,053-to-win program, moves to the legendary Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City on Friday for $7,553 to win, and concludes Saturday at Lake Cumberland Speedway in Burnside with a $10,053 first-place prize on the line.

Deatherage Opticians awards went to Hudson O’Neal (4th place) and Travis Fultz (13th place).

The current point standings show Garrett Smith still leading the way, with Overton now solidly in second. The series schedule continues to promise stout competition and solid purses as the tour makes its way through the Southeast and into the heart of dirt-track country.

There is something satisfying about watching a veteran like Overton do things the old-fashioned way: qualify well, win your heat, bide your time in the feature, make one clean move for the lead, and then drive away without incident. In a sport that sometimes rewards the flashy and the fortunate, nights like Saturday remind everyone that the steady hand and the smart head still carry the day when the track slicks off and the laps start to matter most.
