The 2026 Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing season opened its gates from March 12 to 14 at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, thereby inaugurating the series’ third full-time national campaign in the straightforward manner that serious racing has always demanded. Thursday’s 25-lap feature launched the three-night event and the full 62-race schedule, with every lap streamed live on FloRacing so that even the armchair enthusiasts could witness the dirt flying without having to scrape it off their shoes afterward.
Kyle Larson surged from fifth position, ripping the high cushion early like a man who understood that hesitation gets you nowhere on loose dirt, before switching to protect the bottom lane late in the going. He slipped past race-long leader Giovanni Scelzi with eight laps remaining and then held off Corey Day by the absurdly slim margin of 0.096 seconds to claim the season-opening victory, which ranks as the third-closest finish in High Limit history. That kind of photo-finish closeness does not arrive by accident; it arrives when one driver refuses to blink while the other discovers, too late, that second place still tastes like defeat.
Scelzi, in only his second weekend piloting for the new Spire Motorsports operation, paced the opening 18 laps from the outside pole and stretched his advantage to nearly four seconds at one point during a caution-free feature that moved with the relentless efficiency of a well-oiled machine. Pole-starter Brent Marks never led a single lap and settled for fourth place, a result that reminded everyone watching that the front row is merely an invitation, not a guarantee, and that the real work still has to be done the old-fashioned way.
