iRacing Release Notes Highlights for 2018 Season 4

September 5, 2018 by Jeff Kendrick 3 Comments

There are some pretty good things in this build. For the other stuff, we’ll just have to wait and see how it works. Here are some highlights.

iRacing Beta Interface enhancements. There are supposedly quite a few of those. Maybe the interface will be usable Soon®.

Logitech G923 Racing Wheel and Pedals

Logitech G923 Racing Wheel & Pedals

One of the most popular entry-to-mid level sim racing wheels available today. The G923 delivers strong TRUEFORCE feedback up to 1000 Hz that lets you feel the road with refreshing clarity, a responsive brake pedal with progressive spring, and a solid set of pedals built for consistent control. It includes a programmable dual-clutch launch system for cleaner starts, a genuine leather-wrapped wheel, and straightforward compatibility with PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One.

Dirt

  • Tracks will dry differently/faster.
  • Grip is more sensitive to water content.
  • The lateral strength of the cushion has been slightly reduced.
  • Heat races will now start with more track wear. Expect no benefit from this, and more caution flags in the feature races.

  • Backfires and gear shifting sounds for stock cars have been improved. Will they still sound like 5 second loop, same thing over and over? I guess we’ll know soon enough.
  • Various other improvements.

Cars

  • Dirt Late Model
The left rear droop chain can be adjusted.
Brake bias adjustments are opened up to allow from 10% to 90% bias.
    Braking performance should be improved.
  •  Midget
Fuel restrictions were removed and corresponding adjustments were made to the mass and inertia properties.
    Tire tread pattern was adjusted.
  • Dirt Sprint Car
Setups can now be shared across all three iRacing Dirt Sprint Cars.
Fuel restrictions were removed and corresponding adjustments were made to the mass and inertia properties.
    Aerodynamic performance has been adjusted.
    Shock damping characteristics were updated.
    Tire tread pattern adjusted.
  • Dirt Sprint Car (Non-Winged)
Setups can now be shared across all three iRacing Dirt Sprint Cars.
Fuel restrictions were removed and corresponding adjustments were made to the mass and inertia properties.
    Shock damping characteristics were updated.
  • Asphalt Super Late Model
The tire compound, front and rear geometry, aerodynamics, and engine performance have been adjusted to improve vehicle handling. This was sorely needed.
The display for wheel toe adjustments has been adjusted.
Bar torque measurements have been added to the garage info.
I’ve done some testing in this car since this was written. The car is still a horrible turd. The physics are nowhere close. I’m not sure why it was changed in the first place. It wasn’t perfect but it was a lot closer before the changes.

Tracks

  • The Dirt Track at Charlotte, Eldora Speedway, Knoxville Raceway, Limaland Speedway, Volusia Speedway and Williams Grove Speedway: Added dynamic track initialization data from World Of Outlaws sessions to make the starting track state more realistic. The start/finish line at Knoxville was moved.
  • Kokomo Speedway is now available for purchase!

Pretty much. Used to be short ovals, now mostly dirt. We still provide some asphalt short oval setups and most of the technical information is generic.
