Davenport Masters the Gauntlet: A Commanding Triumph at Volunteer Speedway

In the unforgiving crucible of Saturday night’s Gauntlet finale at Volunteer Speedway, Jonathan Davenport of Blairsville, Georgia, delivered a performance that reminded everyone why certain drivers simply refuse to be denied. Starting from the second position, Davenport led all sixty laps of the feature, turning back every challenge with the sort of methodical precision that separates the exceptional from the merely competent.

Logitech G923 Racing Wheel and Pedals for Xbox X|S, Xbox One and PC Featuring TRUEFORCE up to 1000 Hz Force Feedback, Responsive Pedal, Dual Clutch Launch Control, and Genuine Leather Wheel Cover Serious sim racers want feedback they can trust, not some limp toy wheel pretending to be a steering column. The Logitech G923 Racing Wheel and Pedals delivers the real deal with TRUEFORCE force feedback, responsive pedals, and a hand-stitched leather wheel. Built for Xbox and PC, it brings sharper control and real driving feel to your rig so you can push harder every lap. If you want your sim racing to feel like the real thing, this wheel is ready to go to work.

The defining moment arrived on the lap-35 restart, when Mike Marlar attempted one of those audacious slide jobs that so often decide races on dirt. Davenport, however, refused to yield an inch. He gathered the car up, maintained his line, and drove away as if the interruption had been little more than a polite suggestion rather than a genuine threat. From that point forward, the race belonged to him.

Ricky Thornton, Jr. mounted a respectable pursuit and finished a respectable second, yet even he crossed the line 2.512 seconds behind. That margin, while modest by some standards, spoke volumes about the control Davenport exercised over both car and circumstance. It marked his seventh feature win of the 2026 season and, more significantly, his second victory in the same week at Volunteer Speedway.

Track promoter Vic Hill had sweetened the pot with a $100,000 bonus for any driver who could sweep the week. Davenport collected that handsome sum without ceremony, adding it to the $30,000 winner’s check. In total, the Georgian left Bristol with $130,000 and the satisfaction of a job executed exactly as it should be: cleanly, decisively, and without unnecessary drama.

There is something refreshing about watching a driver who understands the value of consistency and composure. In an era when many seem determined to win with flair at the expense of survival, Davenport simply drives the proper line, lap after lap, and lets the results speak for themselves. On this night, the results spoke loudly indeed.

Congratulations are in order for the man from Blairsville. He did not merely win the Gauntlet finale—he made it look as though the race had been his all along.
