iRacing’s South Boston Speedway: A Mini Stock Battleground

iRacing Mini Stock at South Boston Speedway

Have you ever felt the adrenaline rush of a close-quarters racing battle? If so, you need to try iRacing’s South Boston Speedway Mini Stock series. This iconic short track, known for its tight turns and intense competition, provides an exhilarating experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

The Mini Stock class is perfect for those who enjoy a more accessible form of racing. These cars are relatively easy to drive, but that doesn’t mean the competition is any less fierce. With a field of drivers battling for every inch of track, every race is a high-stakes affair.

Multitasking at South Boston Speedway

Nathan Crews at South Boston SpeedwayCrews will be busier than ever at South Boston Speedway this season — Nathan Crews, that is. Crews will defend his Budweiser Pure Stock Championship at the four tenths mile bullring. He will also be running a Late Model Stock Car for part of the season. He may also be wheeling his brother, Daniel Crews’s Limited Sportsman car a few times.

“We’re going to focus on the little car, and hopefully we can win another championship,” Crews said.

“If we had the money, we would definitely try to run all of the Late Model races. I’m hoping to shoot for running at least 10 Late Model races, maybe a few more. I might run a Limited race or two as well.”

Crews has stayed busy during the off season. He and his team completely rebuilt their four-cylinder race car. They also build a brand new Limited Sportsman car for his brother, Daniel. Meanwhile the team is seeking sponsors for Daniel’s Limited Late Model ride.

In addition to all of that, Crews started a new job working for sellers racing. He joined the HC Sellers team to help get things going for the 202o Season.

Crews hopes to continue last season’s success in the Budweiser Pure Stock Division. He dominated last year, winning nine races and finishing in the top five in thirteen of fifteen starts. He has every reason to be optimistic.

South Boston Speedway will open the season on Saturday, March 21, and feature the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in a 150-lap race. The NASCAR Late Model Stock Cars will compete in Twin 75-lap features. Support divisions will also compete.

OSR League Update for January 24, 2017

Latest News

All of the Old School Racing Leagues will return to fixed setups beginning Friday, January 27. As the poll indicates, league members prefer fixed setups over open setups. This proves out in league participation. We always have more people racing when when we race on fixed setups. The setups provided will be slightly modified versions of the iRacing setups. In almost all cases, no spring adjustments will be made which will limit other adjustments. Some of the things that will be adjusted are

  • camber
  • tire pressures
  • gear
  • small stagger adjustments
  • shocks (because the iRacing shock settings are ridiculous on most of the current setups)
  • track bars (on cars that have them).

This will produce a baseline setup that is very drivable and should suit everyone well.

Last Week’s Race Winners

  • Modified – Donny Moore
  • Rookie Street Stock – Kevin LaBree
  • Pro Street Stock – Bryce Senesac
  • Late Model Stock Car – Brad Carpenter

Coming Up

This Friday night, the Modifieds are at New Smyrna Speedway for a morning race. Practice begins at 9:00 pm eastern time with qualifying at 9:30 and racing at 9:35. We will be using this setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2002 tpl=filebrowser /].

Sunday night, the Rookie and Pro Street Stocks visit South Boston Speedway for a race under the lights.

  • Rookie Streets Stocks – 6:30 pm eastern, 60 laps
  • Pro Street Stocks – 7:30 pm eastern, 75 laps

Both Street Stock races will use this setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2004 tpl=filebrowser /].

Last but not least, the Late Model Stock Cars head to Lanier National Speedway Sunday night at 9:00 pm eastern for a 90 lap afternoon race. I’m not crazy about afternoon races in the Late Model but that’s what iRacing is running next week so we’ll hit it Sunday. We will use this setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2005 tpl=filebrowser /].

iRacing 2016 Season 3 Release Notes – Already?

Week 13 starts in a few days, and iRacing has already posted the release notes for next season. It’s a bit unusual, but I’m not complaining. The headline for this release is the new Italian road course, Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari, also known as Imola. Also, South Boston Speedway got an artwork upgrade.

So let’s take a look at all the things that iRacing has updated and added that I find relevant (mostly short track oval stuff. :D).

The iRacing Website
  • The Setup Up Grid button has been moved up the page to a more relevant position on the session creation page.
  • The Grid Builder context menu now positions itself correctly.
Dynamic Tracks
  • Dust and gravel can be dragged and thrown onto the track. This debris then interacts with the racing tires. The debris can accumulate on the tires and it will have an effect on tire grip.
Rendering
  • A cube map update will cause brighter reflections off of object.
DirectX 11
  • Several patches and fixes were implemented.
  • All new iRacing installations will default to DirectX 11.
PopcornFX
  • All tracks now have complete particle collison. Debris and other particles such as sparks will bounce along the racing surface instead of passing through into the underworld.
Audio
  • Improved aero, road rolling, and wind sounds for all vehicles.
  • The scraping noises that you don’t want to hear, the ones for Armco fence rails and vehicle undertrays have been improved.
Incident Points
  • The Info tab on the session screen will show your incident points for the current session.
  • The Entries tab on the session screen will have an “INCS” column. You can see the incident points for all of the entries in that column. They aren’t visible during a race session, but they will be visible after the race is complete. Admins are able to see everyone’s incident points at any time during a race session.
iRacing Super Late Model
  • Now uses PBR shaders.
  • The mirrors have been adjusted.
South Boston Speedway
  • South Boston artwork has been upgraded for all track configuration. This includes the track surface, environment objects, and structures. SoBo should now shine like new.
Thompson Speedway
  • Fixed that bump at the entrance to turn three. Now I might have to change my racing line at Thompson. hmmm
