The Old School Racing Motorsports League Will Resume Racing June 8, 2018

The Old School Racing Motorsports League will resume racing during iRacing’s Week 13 that falls between 2018 Seasons two and three, on June 8. The league will begin racing in the Pro Late Model Cars on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Each night will be considered a separate Pro Late Model Series with separate point standings. We will stick to the iRacing schedule for the same series for the most part but I will repeat tracks as little as possible. I’ll have a schedule ready soon after iRacing releases the schedules for season three.

As the initial season progresses, we will declare a season champion and discontinue one of the Pro Late Model Series based only on participation. At some point we will add a 360 Sprint Series running on the same night as the Pro Late Model Series. At some point we also plan to add a UMP Modified Series also on the same night.

I have had two or three people who are interested in some of the admin duties. If you’re interested in handling some of the admin responsibilities please see me in Discord. Here are details on what I need from admins.

  1. Session admin/race control. I am probably going to have to miss a couple of weeks each season. I will know in advance when I’m not going to be available. Those who are interested may want to become familiar with the admin commands. You can bind these to a key for quick access. If you’re going to use them while racing it is necessary. Fortunately these won’t be used very much as we won’t clear many black flags and none of the other commands apply to what we will be doing. If you’re interested in any of this and don’t know where to begin, see me in Discord and I can show you how to bind keys, etc.
  2. Incident review committee. I need two or three people who can look at specific race incidents and cast a vote on a decision. One of the members will need to review the entire replay’s incidents only. You can skip to the next incident in a replay using the PgUp key on your number pad. To go to the previous incident, use PgDn on your number pad. You don’t have to watch the entire replay. Just the incidents. If you see something that requires a warning or suspension, you need to edit it out, save it, and share it with the other admins in the committee on Discord. Most of the time you will vote on a warning for the first couple of offenses. After the first two warnings, suspensions will start. After a couple of suspensions, we have to vote on removal. For grievous offenses removal can happen with the first incident.

That pretty much covers it. For session admin/race control it’s just a matter of being in the sessions when I’m not. If you race pretty regularly you will probably be there anyway. Incident review will take maybe 15 or 20 minutes for the person who does the initial replay review if he has to chop out an incident. If he just looks through it and there’s nothing there, maybe 5-10 minutes total. For the rest of the committee, maybe 5-10 minutes maximum to review an incident and state your opinion.

There is an admin channel on Discord. Admins will have permissions to access the channel to share replay clips and have any discussions about any given incident.

I know that this requires a bit of a commitment, but this is what needs to happen for the league to function properly. We don’t want our league to end up like the official races. We’re running in leagues to get away from that kind of show.

OSR League Update for March 14, 2017

Latest News

Just a quick update — I added one new rule to the League Rules page:

A visible car number is required for each participant.

Please keep your car numbers visible to avoid confusion.

Last Week’s Race Winners

Chris Roberts led every lap and was untouchable in Friday night’s OSR Modified race at USA International Speedway.

The Street Stock drivers ran 51 laps at Concord Speedway without a single caution. Ron Collinsworth had the race in hand, but somehow I snuck by on a pit stop. A few cars chose not to stop for tires. That put Nick Schaeffer in the lead. Nick led for 21 laps then I managed to get under him on a last lap effort to win the race.

AJ Rogers and Ron Collinsworth swapped the lead a few times in the early laps of the Late Model race at South Boston Speedway. As a result of the caution that fell on lap 24, I somehow took the lead. I went on to lead most of the race, but Royce Scrivano had wisely changed tires during one of the cautions. Royce ran me down and I knew I was done for. Besides, I was blinking a little so I moved up to let Royce go on by. When I moved up the car felt better so I just stayed up there and I saw Royce start to fade back a little, then I think he moved up to the high line too.

The caution came out again on lap 81, and I could not avoid some wrecked cars on the front stretch going into turn one, so that ended my race. Royce Scrivano went on to win in a car that looked a little bit beat up, but most of them did after that race.

All in all, it was the most fun I’ve had on iRacing in a long time. The car counts were great and the racing action was non-stop. I look forward to next week. 🙂

Coming Up

The OSR Modifieds head north for a late afternoon race at what could accurately be called their home track, Stafford Motor Speedway. This setup will be used: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2064 tpl=filebrowser /]. Modifieds run Friday night at 9:00 pm eastern.

Sunday night at 7:30 eastern, the Pro Street Stocks visit New Smyrna Speedway for a night race. Here’s the  setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2065 tpl=filebrowser /].

For our feature race of the weekend, the Late Model Stock Cars head for the hills of Bristol, Tennessee to compete on the high banks in a night race. That session gets under way Sunday night at 9:00 pm. We will use this setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2066 tpl=filebrowser /]. Practicing for this race is a great idea. You really have to take it easy on the tires at Bristol.

OSR @ Five Flags Speedway

OSR at Five Flags Speedway
The Old School Racing Motorsports League will once again offer something new and unique to the iRacing community next season. The league will race in four different divisions at a single track for the entire racing season (3 months). The track for the fall season will be the venerable Five Flags Speedway located in Pensacola, Florida.

The four divisions on the racing docket are:

  • Legends Cars – 20 laps
  • Street Stocks – 30 laps
  • Late Model Sportsmen – 40 laps
  • Super Late Models – 50 laps

There will be no qualifying sessions. The grid will be formed by inverting the finish from the previous week. The first week’s races will grid by iRating.

All races will be held on Sunday nights beginning at 8:00 pm eastern time. There will be brief breaks between races so nobody feels rushed. The OSR Fall Season will begin on Sunday, October 4.

We will be testing the format throughout the month of September in open hosted and league only hosted races. These races will be announced through the iRacing League communication system by email and private message. To receive the announcements visit our iRacing League page at http://members.iracing.com/membersite/member/LeagueView.do?league=597 and click the ‘Apply to this League’ button.

We will continue to run open setups in all divisions. As most of you probably know, Old School Racing provides fresh iRacing setups for all of these cars on our website at https://osracing.net.
