For round seven, The iRacing World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series converged at The Sprint Car Capital of the World — the renowned Knoxville Raceway. Hard charger Matthew McKinney, coming off of an astoundingly great run in the last race at Williams Grove Speedway, captured the fastest qualifying time and the pole for heat race number one. Alex A. Bergeron lined up outside McKinney for the heat. Front runner Adam Elby fell to the back of the pack in the heat race which is unusual for him. McKinney led from flag to flag, winning the heat race. Here are the transfers from the heat race:
- Matthew McKinney
- Alex A. Bergeron
- Tim Ryan
- AJ Neben
The top four finished within six tenths of a second of each other.
Chris Brenner started on the pole for heat race number two, with Nick Cooper on the outside. Brenner made a clean break on the start as Austen Semmelmann and Nick Cooper battled for second in the early laps. By lap four, Semmelmann was challenging Brenner for the top spot, pulling a slider in turn one. Brenner crossed over and retook the lead on the bottom coming out of turn two. Semmelmann dove low going into one on the next lap, clipping the inside berm. Semmelmann took the lead again very briefly, but clipping the berm slowed him a little. Brenner was able to easily retake the lead on the back stretch. Semmelmann went back to the bottom again in turn one and the two drivers swapped the lead again in one, then again in turn two as Brenner once again had the momentum. This continued until the end of the race, but Brenner had the advantage as he always had the lead when they crossed the stripe, as he did on the final lap. Brenner won the heat by a mere two one-hundredths of a second over Semmelmann. The transfers were:
- Chris Brenner
- Austen Semmelmann2
- Nick Cooper
- Bradley Casch
The final heat race featured James Edens on the pole with David Heileman on the outside of the front row. Weston Newell fell from fifth all the way to the back on the start as Britton Roxberry fell out of the race with damage on his car. The following drivers transferred from heat race number three:
- James Edens
- Dillon Semmelmann
- David Heileman
- Robert Kerstetter2
That brings us to the last chance qualifying race which usually turns out to be a good one, as drivers struggle to remain in the show. Eight drivers would transfer from the last chance race to the A main. Rusty Kruger started on the pole with Jesse Dakus on the outside. Lap one brought a big crash on the back stretch involving Jesse Dakus and Pillip Diaz. Dakus flipped his car but was somehow able to continue, showing that the damage model for these cars still needs a ton of work. Both drivers started in transfer spots but fell all the way to the back. Their day was finished.
On lap five, Rusty Kruger led the race with Michael Sheridan right behind him. Sheridan looked fast but I speculate that he was riding there to safely lock in his transfer spot. By lap ten, it looked like the racing line was really moving right up next to the wall. The following drivers transferred:
- Rusty L. Kruger
- Michael Sheridan
- Dan Smolders
- Adam Elby
- Weston Newell
- Britton Roxberry
- Ryan Pace
- Anthony LoPresto
Matthew McKinney and Chris Brenner made up the first row for the thirty lap A main feature race with James Edens and Alex Bergeron in the second row. AJ Neben and Michael left early after hitting the outside fence on lap one. The green flag came out again on lap five then the race immediately returned to caution for an incident involving Bradley Casch, who flipped his car yet, miraculously, was able to continue.
As the green came out again, Alex Bergeron moved past Chris Brenner to take second place. Bergeron tried the inside slider but there was nothing doing as the outside was risky yet much faster. It was obvious that the track was completely trashed at this point. Very good drivers were slipping and sliding, bumping the outside fence but most of them were hanging on as we ran some good green flag racing laps. Caution flew again on lap eighteen for the number 44 car of Ryan Pace. Bergeron managed to grab the lead before the caution came out. McKinney fell to second.
Green flag racing commenced on lap twenty, then the caution was back out on lap 21. With six laps to go the green came out then the caution came out again immediately due to the impatience of one or two drivers. Pole sitter Matthew McKinney fell to fifth place in the lineup. The green flag fell once again with just two laps remaining in the race. Bergeron pulled out to a good lead, then disaster struck for a couple of drivers on the white flag lap. Chris Brenner made contact with Matthew McKinney who spun around and flipped, taking at least one other car with him. Meanwhile, David Heileman was mounting a very real challenge for race leader Alex Bergeron. Hats off to Heileman who went low on the final turn and probably could have pulled the slider on Bergeron and parked it right in front of him. Heileman stayed low and gave plenty of room, setting a good example of patience and a great example of sportsmanship. Bergeron held on for the win and Heileman had to settle for second. Here is how they finished:
- Alex A. Bergeron
- David Heileman
- Chris Brenner
- Britton Roxberry
- James Edens
- Tim Ryan
- Dillon Semmelman
- Anthony LoPresto
- Dan Smolders
- Ryan Pace
- Robert Kerstetter2
- Rusty L. Kruger
- Weston Newell
- Austen Semmelmann2
- Matthew McKinney
- AJ Neben
- Adam Elby
- Bradley Casch
- Nick Cooper
- Michael Sheridan
