OSR League Update for February 22, 2017

Latest News

The OSR website was moved to a new host yesterday. Some of you may have experienced a brief delay if you tried to load the site due to what they call “DNS propagation.” Big words for a certain type of internet lag. The pages should load with snap and pizzazz now. If you see any problems let me know.

This is the last league race of the season in all classes. Good luck to all. We will have a one-week break then it’s back at it. Next season’s schedule is posted on the schedule page. Scroll to the bottom to see it. The neat tables were created with the Possum League Manager™.

We’ll be running our final Dirt League format test/Street Stock race in the OSR Dirt League this week. This time it’s South Boston Speedway at night. For this week’s dirt league races, all participants will need to be members of the OSR Dirt League. You will not be able to enter the session if you are not a member of that specific league. We will run the two heat/one main format under Hosted Tournaments. If the car count is short there will be no heat races. We will use this setup. [wpfilebase tag=file id=2004 tpl=filebrowser /]

The OSR Modifieds pay a visit to Oxford Plains Speedway Friday night at 9:00 eastern. Here’s the setup. [wpfilebase tag=file id=2049 tpl=filebrowser /]

Sunday night, the Pro Street Stocks race at Lanier National Speedway night. Here’s the  setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2050 tpl=filebrowser /].

For our feature race of the weekend, the Late Model Stock Cars head north to Martinsville Speedway Sunday night at 9:00 pm eastern for a 75 lap afternoon race. We will use this setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2051 tpl=filebrowser /].

OSR League Update for February 14, 2017

Latest News

Just a few words about the OSR Dirt League here. I think the format I have chosen is the right one for the league. The only other realistic option is to run the heat races and the main under League Sessions. It would then be necessary to run the heat races one at a time instead of simultaneously like I can under Hosted Tournaments. It might be nice to watch one heat race when we’re not running, but it also adds a significant amount of time to the event. With the tournament format, it’s going to be about 1.5 hours for the entire event. Under League Sessions, it would probably run somewhere between 1.75 and 2 hours. I’m also not sure that League Session hosting options offer the snake lineup possibilities that are provided in tournament sessions. That would add even more time to the event because manual gridding would have to be done. Points would also have to be manually added/subtracted for heat races. I don’t think League Sessions is the right option if we want to run anything other than practice/qual/main.

Concerning the championship points situation, neither iRacing or danlisa.com is currently set up to handle heat races and mains points. I have developed a PHP script that will take care of the points. I simply upload a race results file, similar to the danlisa.com process, and click a button and points are updated and displayed on the website automatically. I’m still working on optimizing the script but that work is done on test files on a test server and then the original files are updated after they are fully tested. So the script is up and running. You can see the output (Dirt League point standings) right here. Since this is fully customizable, I may decide to use this system next season in all of the active OSR Leagues.

Comments About Last Week’s Races

I saw some over-driving in the Street Stock race. We’re not on dirt surfaces yet. Sliding is a bad thing. Drive on the edge, maybe slip into a slight slide occasionally as you will, but try not to.

Some of the incidents in the Late Model race appeared to be caused by not allowing enough room for other drivers. Lucas Oil Raceway is a big track and there is plenty of room there. No matter what track we’re on, try to allow a little more room than you think you should and I think you’ll have a better chance of finishing well.

Coming Up

We’ll be running another Street Stock race in the OSR Dirt League this week. This time it’s Lanier National Speedway at night. For this week’s dirt league races, all participants will need to be members of the OSR Dirt League. You will not be able to enter the session if you are not a member of that specific league. We will run the two heat/one main format under Hosted Tournaments. If the car count is short there will be no heat races. We will use this setup. [wpfilebase tag=file id=1990 tpl=filebrowser /]

The OSR Modifieds are off this Friday night. I have scheduled another Street Stock race for the OSR Dirt League instead. This one is at Irwindale Speedway Inner late afternoon. This is a one-third mile track. This setup will be used. [wpfilebase tag=file id=2047 tpl=filebrowser /]

Sunday night, the Pro Street Stocks visit Southern National Speedway for a night race. Here’s the  setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2046 tpl=filebrowser /].

For our feature race of the weekend, the Late Model Stock Cars head north to Stafford Motor Speedway Sunday night at 9:00 pm eastern for a 75 lap afternoon race. We will use this setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2045 tpl=filebrowser /].

OSR League Update for February 6, 2017

Latest News

The suspense continues to build surrounding the release date of iRacing Dirt. I keep hearing that it’s going to be sometime in March, but I have no reliable sources. March is a pretty good guess considering the fact that the updates from iRacing are showing a product that is nearing completion, and also the fact that the Season 2 build comes out in March. I don’t think anybody knows for sure except maybe the folks at iRacing headquarters.

I would like to test a dirt racing format this Wednesday at 9:00 pm eastern. This is not the night that I plan to run Dirt racing, this is just a test night, and the format may change. The entire event should take less than 2 hours. Click to join the OSR Dirt League. It’s not necessary to join the Dirt League to participate in the session, but it is restricted to OSR and BRL league members only. The test will be held under Hosted Tournament Sessions. Just click Hosted on the iRacing page and look in Tournaments near the top. If we have enough cars (6 minimum) we will be running 4 different sessions.

  1. 30 minute practice and 5 minute qualifying
  2. Heat 1 – 12 laps
  3. Heat 2 – 12 laps
  4. Main – 50 laps

If we have fewer than 6 cars, the test will be canceled.

The track will be Oxford Plains Speedway Late Afternoon with default weather. The car will be the Street Stock on this fixed setup: [wpfilebase tag=file id=2043 tpl=filebrowser /]

It might be easier if you can join Discord since we will be moving from session to session, or you can just watch for subsequent sessions to appear under Hosted Tournaments.

The heats will line up snaked from qualifying. The Main will line up snaked from the heats. iRacing’s tournament system makes this relatively easy from what I can recall.

If you miss practice and qualifying and make it before the heats start, I can put you at the tail end of a heat if you let me know in Discord.

Even though the tournament system makes this easier, it’s still a bit of a PITA. Ideally, iRacing should come up with a way in which all of these races can be handled within one session. Tournaments are not available in leagues sessions, so no points can be scored under the iRacing league system. I am going to use a third party points system and score our test races. Only the mains will be scored.

If you have any questions or suggestions about this race format or any other, PM me or join Discord.
