New Content

Gen 3 Supercars

Two exciting new cars have been introduced, forming the all-new Supercars – Gen 3 class: the Supercars Chevrolet Camaro Gen 3 and the Supercars Ford Mustang Gen 3.

Acura NSX GT3 EVO 22

Building on the success of the original NSX GT3, which debuted in 2017 and claimed numerous wins and an IMSA GTD championship, the Acura NSX GT3 EVO 22 made its mark during the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season. Its debut season concluded with a victory at the Petit Le Mans for Gradient Racing, following its first IMSA podium at Long Beach earlier that year. The EVO 22 also secured multiple wins and championships across other racing series worldwide.

This upgraded model refines its predecessor with enhancements such as re-tuned suspension geometry, improved intercoolers, and revised wheel systems. Powered by Acura’s formidable 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine, the car delivers an impressive 520 horsepower.

As a GT3-class vehicle, the NSX GT3 EVO 22 offers adjustable features including traction control, anti-roll bars, and rear wing settings, providing drivers with the tools to optimize performance on the track.

BMW M2 CSR

BMW’s modern racing heritage spans all levels of the sports car racing world, not just the top tiers. Its dedication to supporting track-day enthusiasts and rising amateurs is exemplified by the M2 CSR, a car homologated for TCX class racing and showcased in its own M2 CS Racing Cup series.

Developed through a collaboration between BMW Motorsport and BMW M, the M2 CSR benefits from lessons learned during the creation of the M4 GT4, offering an ideal entry point for aspiring racers. Weighing 3,405 pounds and powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six engine producing 365 horsepower in its Cup variant, the M2 CSR strikes a perfect balance for those seeking something faster than typical entry-level vehicles but not as intense as a GT4 car.

Key features include a fully FIA-approved roll cage, a racing rear wing, a front splitter, and a specially tuned ABS system, making it a powerful and safe platform for developing future racing stars.

Huset’s Speedway

Named after farmer and businessman Til Huset, Huset’s Speedway was built in 1953 on former farmland—a soybean field—and opened the following year. Like many of America’s premier dirt ovals, it quickly became a hub for top-tier motorsport, hosting renowned national series such as the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series.

In the mid-2010s, the track briefly operated as Badlands Motor Speedway before closing. In 2020, Tod Quiring stepped in to rescue the historic venue, swiftly restoring it as a premier destination for top-level sprint car racing.

Measuring 1/3 mile with high banks, Huset’s Speedway is a thrilling bullring that runs weekly and national-level events through Labor Day weekend. Highlighting its schedule are prestigious races like the Huset’s High Bank Nationals and the Huset’s Hustle, which offer six-figure payouts to sprint car winners, and the Silver Dollar Nationals, awarding $75,000 to the victor in late model competition.

Quiring’s dedication to the track’s legacy extends beyond its events—he proudly showcases the Huset’s brand on his Big Game Motorsports 410 Sprint Car, which competes in the World of Outlaws national tour. Partnering with driver David Gravel, the team has celebrated dozens of victories in recent seasons, solidifying Huset’s Speedway as a cornerstone of American dirt racing.

Thruxton Circuit

Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire, England, has roots dating back to 1950 when the former RAF Thruxton airfield, a key base for Allied operations during World War II, was repurposed for motorcycle racing. The main circuit was established in 1968, following the perimeter roads of the airfield, and has since become a staple of British motorsport.

Known as “The Fastest Circuit in the UK,” Thruxton hosts major events each summer, including the British Touring Car Championship, the British Superbike Championship, the F4 British Championship, and TCR UK. Its 3.793 km (2.356 mile) layout features 12 sweeping turns, favoring high-speed precision over sharp braking zones.

While most races see lap times exceeding a minute, the circuit’s design allows for incredible speeds in higher-class vehicles. The unofficial track record, set by Damon Hill in 1993, stands at a blistering 57.6 seconds in a Williams FW15C Formula 1 car, with an average speed of over 147 mph. Thruxton remains a thrilling venue where history and high-speed racing converge.

iRacing Track Updates

Introducing Kern County Raceway Park

  • Prepare for an exciting new addition: Kern County Raceway Park, a versatile racing venue featuring both Asphalt and Dirt Oval tracks, is now open for purchase and racing!
  • This track offers a total of four unique configurations: Asphalt Track, Legends, Dirt Track, and Dirt Mini Oval.
  • Kern County Raceway Park, nestled in the heart of California, emerged in 2013 as one of the state’s most distinctive racing arenas. Situated roughly 30 miles west of the former Mesa Marin Raceway, a half-mile paved oval that hosted races from 1977 to 2005, including nine NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events, Kern County Raceway Park boasts a diverse range of racing surfaces. In addition to its paved oval, which regularly hosts events like the ARCA Menards Series West and other stock car competitions, the facility features a third-mile, asymmetrical clay oval ideally suited for sprint car and midget racing. The paved oval at Kern County is notable for its progressive banking in the corners, commencing at 12 degrees at the lower section and gradually increasing to 14 degrees at the top, while the straightaways maintain an eight-degree banking. Notably, Turns 1 and 2 sit at a slightly higher elevation than the straightaways and Turns 3 and 4. The corners on Kern County’s dirt oval also offer a unique challenge, with Turns 1 and 2 being tighter compared to the more open configuration of Turns 3 and 4.
  • Make Kern County Raceway Park yours by acquiring it from the iRacing Store through this link: Kern County Raceway Park
  • Engage in AI Racing on the Asphalt Track and Legends track configurations!

Introducing Circuit de Lédenon

  • Get ready for a thrilling new addition: Circuit de Lédenon, a road racing track, is now open for purchase and racing!
  • Pioneering its journey in 1970 and officially unveiling its gates three years later, Circuit de Lédenon stands as one of France’s most distinctive and demanding race circuits. Spanning a distance of 1.958 miles (3.151 km), this track ingeniously squeezes in 13 diverse corners and numerous changes in elevation within its compact confines. What sets it apart from the majority of other prominent French tracks is its counterclockwise layout. Over the years, Lédenon has been a regular host for French Formula 4 events since 2011 and is also known for hosting national GT races. A lap around Lédenon begins with a lengthy, high-speed frontstretch before delving into the challenging Triple Gauche section, comprising three left-hand turns leading into the tighter right-hander known as Virage du Pont. Following the slower La Carrierrasse left-hander, drivers embark on a thrilling descent through La Courmelle, entering the Virage du Camion, after which Le Cavalet presents a sharp right turn and an uphill challenge. Upon navigating La Servie, drivers sprint through one last straight stretch punctuated by smaller corners before La Cuvette propels them back onto the frontstretch.
  • Secure your stake in Circuit de Lédenon by acquiring it from the iRacing Store through this link: Circuit de Lédenon

  • Furthermore, enjoy the lush 3D Foliage System, bringing this track to life in unprecedented detail!

iRacing 2020 Season 2 Build Highlights

First of all, the only thing I see of any significance in the iRacing 2020 Season 2 build is the return of DNC cautions. Let’s hope they stick around this time. Here are some more things that have been added, but this is pretty much a nothing build.

iRacing Beta User Interface – Custom Grid Builder

  • This feature is available for League Sessions using the ‘Practice + Race’ event type.
  • If the requirements are met, a button appears to open the grid builder.
  • You can choose a league roster or a past league session from which to pull participants to the grid.

In essence, this sounds pretty much like the custom grid builder that has been available in the good interface for years. It’s a bit buggy but it works most of the time.

iRacing Simulator – Race Control

iRacing has enabled DNC Caution Laps again. This is used primarily on short ovals. Cautions laps won’t be counted with this on. iRacing fixed a bug that was causing some lap timing problems. DNC Cautions will be enabled in official dirt races in which cautions are enabled (Class C and up).

Race Cars

All of the NASCAR Stock Cars received aero updates for stability as well as tire updates to adjust tire falloff on speedways and intermediate tracks.

Race Tracks

Texas Motor Speedway has been rescanned and rebuilt.

iRacing 2019 Season 4 Release Notes Highlights

Another season has come and gone and it’s just about time for a new one to begin. Here are some highlights for what is coming next at iRacing.

iRacing Beta User Interface (aka the Useless Interface aka the Beater Interface)

  • The friends list feature has been added to the interface.
  • Your funds balance is now shown in the top-right corner.
  • The fixed setup upload apparatus is said to be working.
  • League owners/admins can now delete league sessions from inside the interface.

iRacing Simulation

iRacing Member Website

  • The blacklist functionality has been expanded. Blacklisted members can not spot for you, join any session hosted by you, apply to a league you own, view your online status, or send you a friend request. If you blacklist a current friend, the member is automatically unfriended.
  • You can now block all incoming friend requests.
  • A live support chat feature has been added. You can find it on the bottom right corner of the member website.

Dynamic Tracks

A new track temperature model has been added to the iRacing Simulation.

The upgraded model utilizes multiple layers beneath the ground to track temperature and moisture, as well as simulating three days of weather prior to an event start time for generating the track initialization. This track model also continues to run and generate data that will be used for additional sessions if there is a skip between sessions. The multi-layer approach means that temperature on the surface will behave more realistically. Also included is a more accurate interaction between water and temperature, which can result in the track being cooler than the ambient air temperature if the conditions are right.

The end result compared to the previous Dynamic Track model should be that temperatures will likely be cooler in the morning and early afternoon, and warmer in the late afternoon. With the previous system, as the sun sets, the track temperature cools rapidly with the incoming solar energy gone. With this new model, the heat that is built up (especially if the skies have been clear) in the layers of earth below will work its way back up and warm the surface. Similarly, built-up heat from cars will last longer if a lot of laps have been driven. The layers allow a realistic recording of history that the old model simply could not.

Think especially about a very short, mild rain shower — in the old model, the track temperature would plummet and never come back up, even after all the water was gone. With the new model, heat is retained in the lower layers and the surface may regain some of the lost temperature.

Also significant, when a session starts, the track temperatures are no longer calculated using the cloud conditions at the session start time. This meant if a session happened to start with the sun obscured, the track would have been unrealistically cool. In the new model, if the sun is out most of the time leading up to that moment, that will be captured and the track will still be hot but cooling off.

The effectiveness of using a dirt cushion has been reduced.

New Tire Model Version 7

The following vehicles will roll on NTMv7:

  • Aston Martin DBR9 GT1
  • Audi RS 3 LMS
  • Chevrolet Corvette C6.R GT1
  • Dallara F3
  • NASCAR K&N Pro Chevrolet Impala
  • Skip Barber Formula 2000

Tracks

Fairbury Speedway

Fairbury Speedway will be added to the roster of available dirt tracks. Located in Fairbury, Illinois Fairbury American Legion Speedway is a banked quarter-mile oval known for hosting World of Outlaws and DIRTcar Sprint Car and Late Model action. FALS is one of the most popular dirt tracks in America, winning three DIRTcar Track of the Year honors and earning its way into iRacing after being voted in by a passionate fanbase. FALS’ signature event, the Prairie Dirt Classic, has run for nearly three decades and takes place at the end of July. The season runs from May to September with weekly competition.

Kokomo Speedway

The tire barriers have been moved slightly in and attempt to reduce the reported top-dominant racing strategies.

So there you have the highlights for the 2019 Season 4 build. Personally, I’m looking forward to the release of Fairbury Speedway as well as trying out the K&N Car on the new tire model.
