SLR Nation Introduces Hot Shot Small Block 358 Modified Series

SLR Nation, known primarily for hosting Big Block Modified Races all day every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, has intruduced a Small Block 358 Modified Series for drivers who have less experience in the iRacing simulation. Requirements for the SLR Hot Shot Small Block Modified series are:

  • Minimum D 3.0 license
  • Maximum 2500 iRating

In addition to Big Block and Small Block racing, SLR also frequently hosts Dirt Super Late Models and UMP Modified cars. Peter Neuder colors and calls all the action as it is broadcast live on the SLR Twitch channel. All of the hosted events are overseen by at least one live admin, making the racing some of the cleanest on the iRacing simulator. You can find the SLR races under Hosted sessions in the iRacing UI. Look for sessions hosted by SLR or John Salada. Join the SLR Community Discord here.

OSR Florida Governor’s Cup at New Smyrna Speedway

OSR Governor's CupEach November, New Smyrna Speedway hosts the Florida Governor’s Cup 200. It’s a Super Late Model race that is among the most elite short track racing events in the country, second in prestige only to the Snowball Derby.

The Governor’s Cup has been won by some of the biggest names in short track racing since its inception in 1963.

Legendary Alabama short track hot shoe Augie Grill has won the past two Governor’s Cup SLM events. Erik Jones won the event in 2011. Before that, Florida short track racing legends such as Wayne Anderson, David Rogers, Gary Balough, Mike Fritts, Pete Orr, Dick Anderson, and Bobby Gill were some of the winners of this prestigious Super Late Model Race. Other legendary drivers who won the Governor’s Cup in the past include Dick Trickle, Ed Howe, and Freddy Fryer.

iRacing Schedule for 2014 Season 2

iRacing has released the racing schedule for 2014 Season 2. Here are some of the highlights:

  • The Late Model Series will make a stop at Lucas Oil Raceway aka Indianapolis Raceway Park in Week 3, so expect the track in the new build or at least by week 3. The Late Models will also visit Martinsville Speedway in Week 12, which should be a lot of fun.
  • The iRacing Street Stock Class C Series will be a FIXED SETUP series for 2014 season 2. The races have also been shortened significantly. The Street Stocks will also visit Lucas Oil Raceway in Week 6. The only bum tracks on the Street Stock schedule for the upcoming season are Iowa Speedway and Rockingham Speedway. I’ll be sitting out those weeks, as usual. I believe we will see a significant increase in participation for Street Stock Class C as a result of fixed setups and shorter races. I’m not praising fixed setups. I think it would be a good thing if better setups were developed for the cars. Fixed setups have their pros and cons, the biggest con being that some people tend to practice less, or none at all when a fixed setup race is concerned.
  • Get ready to shell out a few bucks for Lucas Oil Raceway; the Super Late Modes visit the track on Week 10.
